reclaimed teak cabinetReclaimed wood is wood that has already been used for another purpose, and has been salvaged for another use. Almost all reclaimed wood is higher-grade wood than the newly-harvested wood sold today--with more beauty, stability, clarity, and density--as it was originally harvested from old-growth forests. Using reclaimed wood leaves forests standing, protecting trees, the watershed, and habitat for wildlife and understory plants. Generally, less embodied energy is used to create reclaimed wood products than to create new wood products or plastic lumber, concrete, or steel. Even reclaimed wood shipped via boat from other continents still contain less embodied energy compared to domestic manufactured products, as sea freight is very energy efficient. Ajisaka also does everything they can to keep the financial benefits of reclaiming wood close to community where the wood came from. Wood is an ideal choice for indoor air quality when a nontoxic or natural finish is applied. It's easy to clean and keep dust-free.

reclaimed teak cabinet Here at Ajisaka we know you want the furniture that's going to suit your lifestyle -- and we know there's more to it than making sure the colors match. You want a quality product built to last, but how it lasts depends on how you live your life and the properties of the materials. To help you find the materials that will work best for you, we've given the details about the most common kinds of woods so you can make sure they'll work for you.

reclaimed teak cabinetThis splendid piece with its fine fluted columns will fit elegantly into an otherwise lost corner and bring it to life with the unique beauty of the design of the piece and extraordinary quality of the timber used to make it. Sourced from Indonesian hardwoods (tectona grandis) that have been reclaimed principally from railroads, houses/barn (and other siurces), the timber used was harvested fifty to a hundred and fifty years ago. It is one of the hardest timbers used for furniture in the world, with a wonderful deep golden grain, and will last, if cared for, for many hundreds of years.

With an average lifespan of 75 years, teak wood has long been acclaimed as the best choice for outdoor furnishings. The natural oil content in the wood makes teak resistant to water, weather and warping, allowing it to withstand season after season of use. Over time teak will age to a soft silver color. The original ""new"" look may be maintained with the application of teak oil once or twice a year, though most prefer the classic elegance of aged wood. Small cracks may appear in the surface of the wood, this is part of the natural aging process and in no way harms the furniture's integrity. Also, compared to many other woods, teak weathers in such a way that it stays smooth to the touch.

reclaimed teak cabinetAjisaka strongly believes that if something is worth doing then it is worth doing properly. All of our designs are genuinely made by hand from the finest quality materials (recycled teak wood) using only traditional carpentry techniques. By concentrating on these fundamental basics Ajisaka produces high quality furniture to last a lifetime.

We really care about how we make our furniture, it is not simply a production process for our carpenters but an art form, and whilst many designs will look the same, every piece will be unique!
